Dot Matrix printers use printheads made of pins which press ink-soaked ribbon onto paper to create images. Zero Ink printers utilize heat technology, not requiring an ink cartridge, toner or ribbon.

Refers to the primary function(s) of the printer: Instant Photo (specific to portable photo printers), Print only (also known as single function), Print, Scan, Copy (also known as all-in-one), or any combination of Print, Scan, Copy, and Fax.

A wireless ready printer (or Wi-Fi printer) uses a wireless internet connection to receive information from a computer or other device. A wired printer requires a cable for a direct connection to a computer or network.

Indicates what types of paper or material can be used in the printer.

Mobile Device Printing allows a user to send files to the printer from their device (such as a phone or tablet) through a local wireless connection.

Copy Resolution, measured in dots per inch (dpi), indicates the amount of detail the printer will produce in a copied document. The higher the dpi, the higher the quality of the print.

Refers to the maximum amount of copies that a device can create.

Weight of the product measured in pounds.

Specifies if the printer’s output is either black and white (also referred to as monochrome), or color.

Auto feeder capacity refers to the number of sheets of paper the automatic document feeder on a device is capable of handling at one time.

Indicates the number of sheets of paper the printer can hold in the printer input tray.

Max print resolution, measured in dots per inch (dpi), refers to the maximum amount of detail in a printed image. The higher the resolution, the higher the quality and sharpness of the image.

Double sided printing (also known as duplexing) is a feature that allows printers to print on both sides of the paper. Can either be manual, meaning the user will need to refeed the page in order to print on the other side, or automatic, where the printer will do the work for you.

Recommended number of users that can be using the device.

Indicates the amount of standard internal or expandable memory for a printer. For example, a printer could have a standard memory of 256 MB and expandable memory of 512 MB. Additional memory is required for a printer to process high-volume tasks.

Portable printers allow a user to print on-the-go. This means the printer can operate without being plugged in, using an internal battery.
